Bayern Munich suffered their first defeat of the Bundesliga season, losing 2-1 at Mainz. The Bavarian giants were stunned in the first half by a goal from the locals, while after a carelessness inside the area they conceded the second goal, in the middle of the second half. In the last minutes, Sane managed to reduce the difference, but Vincent Kompany's team could not do more.
Bayer Leverkusen benefited from this result, after beating Augsburg 2-0, they narrowed the points gap to Bayern in the big fight for the champion's title. Granit Xhaka and his friends achieved the eighth victory in this edition and have only four points (29) behind Bayern (33). Terrier and Wirtz scored the winning goals in the 14th and 40th minutes of the first half.
Augsburg after this defeat, the sixth this season, ranks 13th with 16 points. Borussia M'gladbach was convincingly better at home against Holstein Kiel 4-1, while in the other duel of the day Union Berlin and Bochum were separated peacefully 1-1. (A2 Televizion)
