Surprises Guardiola: Manchester City, the last club I manage

Pep Guardiola has stated that Manchester City will be the last club he will manage in his career as a coach, but he has not ruled out the possibility of taking charge of a national team in the future, writes A2 CNN. The Spaniard recently signed a new contract with City until the summer of 2027, which will take him to 11 years in charge of the team.

Guardiola has won 15 major trophies since joining City in 2016 and it was widely reported that he was approached over the summer to take charge of the England national team. "There will come a moment when I will feel that enough is enough and I will stop there, without a doubt," Guardiola said on the Desmontadito program, hosted by Spanish chef Dani García on YouTube.

"I will not join another club. I am not talking about the very distant future, but I will not go to another country to manage another club. I wouldn't have the energy. Now I'm still here, but – to start everything from the beginning, the whole training process; no, no, no," he added.

When asked by García if he would get a national team after that, Guardiola replied: "Yes. It can happen, but it's different. It is not (training) every day, (there is no match) every three days. I think I will have to stop (running clubs). I imagine myself as those chefs who go to other places to see (how things work); to stop to see what we have done, what we can do better. In everyday life, we don't have much time to rest. It's constant and I think taking a break would be good for me. But not now, I'm still here (at City)".

Manchester City have won just one of their last nine games and face Juventus in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The team looked to have recovered form after a 3-0 win against Nottingham Forest last week that ended a six-game winless streak, but were held to a 2-2 draw by Crystal Palace on Saturday.

City are currently ranked 20th in the new 36-team Champions League format, with only the top eight automatically going through to the next round. (A2 Televizion)
