AFF threat: Championship will be suspended if police do not cooperate

The Albanian Football Federation threatens to suspend the championship indefinitely if, according to it, the police do not cooperate in maintaining public order and safety in sports venues.

After the long-distance war between the State Police and the Partizan club, the institution that governs football in the country also entered the field.

"For Sunday's derby, the State Police arrived late at the Partizan stadium, leaving room for the fans to clash outside the stadium, as is clearly evident without any plan of measures, which is usually always made public before derby matches. In fact, the Police did not initially undertake to escort the Tirana team to the stadium, which also led to the postponement of the match by 30 minutes. These incidents came as a result of the lack of responsibility on the part of police officials. This is actually not the first case when the State Police refuses to do their duty and cooperate with the clubs and the Federation. If this type of approach continues in the future, the Federation is forced to review its position and take extreme measures up to the suspension of national football competitions for an indefinite period," reads the FSHF announcement.

Violent clashes between fans in the Partizani-Tirana derby began before the match and continued in the stands, until the intervention of the security forces. The police announced earlier that they would not take responsibility for ensuring order in the Demave Arena, as the Partizani facility does not meet the security conditions for holding a derby match. This claim has been rejected by the red club and the federation.
