Manchester United have today announced an ambitious plan to build a new 100,000-seat stadium, very close to the existing Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are ready to invest £2 billion to build the new facility, which is expected to be three-tower and very modern.

"Today marks the start of an incredibly exciting journey towards delivering what will be the world's largest football stadium, at the heart of a regenerated Old Trafford," said Manchester United co-owner, English billionaire Jim Ratcliffe.

The stadium and project has the potential to deliver an additional £7.3 billion per year to the UK economy, bringing wide-ranging social and economic benefits to the wider community and region, including the potential creation of 92,000 new jobs, more than 17,000 new housing units and attracting an additional 1.8 million visitors per year.

Conceptual images and scaled models of what the new stadium and surrounding area could look like were revealed on Tuesday by Foster + Partners, the architecture group appointed to design the stadium area.

The group in question will provide a master plan for more detailed feasibility, consultation, design and planning work as the project enters a new phase.
