The tallest abandoned building in the world

"Goldin Finance 117", a building that was intended to become one of the tallest in the world, now holds the title for the tallest abandoned building in the world.

It stands 596 meters tall and was designed to transform the skyline of Tianjin, a city in northern China. However, work, which began in 2008 and reached its maximum height in 2015, was halted in 2020 due to financial problems.

The project, led by billionaire Pan Sutong, was part of a major real estate development, Goldin Metropolitan, aimed at making Tianjin a major financial hub. Goldin Finance 117 was planned to have 128 floors, with 117 for hotel and commercial space, and 11 floors for mechanical and operational services, while there were four floors underground.

If completed, Goldin Finance 117 would be among the tallest buildings in the world, behind the Burj Khalifa and several other large buildings. It would have an observation deck, swimming pool, restaurant and bar, and would be among the few buildings that could be inhabited all the way to its top.

After this failure, in 2021, China made a significant decision by banning the construction of buildings over 500 meters, a measure that closed the possibility of other similar projects. (A2 Televizion)
