An Albanian politician had published on his Facebook profile a correct statement on the death of the Pope. Such statements are the most normal part of public and political communication. So, the Albanian politician has not done anything extraordinary. What is extraordinary are the so-called reader comments. Of the approximately 80 comments on the Albanian politician's profile, approximately half are offensive to both the Albanian politician and the one who passed away.
There are vulgar words, curses, threats, "prayers" for the quick death of the Albanian politician who made the post, as well as many, many vulgar formulations that for the sake of public hygiene I am not quoting. Some commentators are clearly hiding behind fake profiles, others are not afraid and comment, that is, rant, with their full names. Among these digital hooligans are also Albanians who live in Switzerland, Germany, Italy and elsewhere in the world.
Where does this madness of these people come from? Why are these people so cruel? You can disagree with a politician, but wish him death? Publicly? (Such abusers of letters probably think of themselves as good men, devout family men, responsible citizens. If they looked at themselves in the mirror, they would realize that they are - bottomless pits.)
How is it possible that so many people in Albanian society (regardless of whether they live in the Balkans or in the diaspora) have lost all control over themselves and give vent to their language without thinking at all, inciting hatred, lying, smearing the other, labeling him as a traitor? And is there a cure for this digital plague? Against this daily lynching? Against this stigmatization and dehumanization?
The Grand Imam of al-Azhar University in Cairo, Ahmad al-Tayeb, praised Pope Francis as a close friend of Muslims. On the X network, al-Tajeb wrote: “Today the world lost a symbol of humanity.”
Albanian hooligans are incapable of reflection. It is easier for them to take a weapon in their hand (“smartphone”) and write a few dirty words. Such people are not believers, they are barbarians! (A2 Televizion)
