"A story about why the DP cannot talk about the losses it has

Tango regime

The reason was a completely stupid article by an opposition MP. It started as a debate on architecture between me and a valued friend, a vocal supporter of Berisha and the Berisha-led DP, and then, as laymen of the venerable craft of architecture and urban planning, we returned to what we know best, the affairs of politics.

My friend, like the fatalistic majority of the opposition, when there is no longer any excuse for the opposition's next failure, I and those like me are put before the divisive question - "do you accept that it is a regime, or not?" If you do not accept that it is a regime, he no longer finds reason to debate, if I did, then it is I who have no reason to criticize the opposition. Each answer closes the debate. So, the question is the agreement of not debating which is often with nerves and passion. That is why I consider him a precious friend because, even in our strong divisions, he finds the opportunity to remain friends.

But none of us gives up on provoking the next debate. This allows us to remain engaged.

As I was saying, the debate started about architecture, but in a “remi” debate, we would certainly come to the politicization, or political treatment of this and that, the famous, “regime”. For my friend there is no doubt, “we are in a regime and we are heading towards dictatorship. There is only an inertia of democracy and some elements in decline. This is the issue”. But issues are resolved by seeking the right path. Have we sought the right path? Have we found the essence of the problem, or are we left only with photographing the problems, the issues that have called into question not only the form, but also the very existence of Albanian democracy itself.

For at least four years, the opposition has been in deep crisis. The trauma of the last four years remains for me as much a snapshot of reality as it is a snapshot of reality to say that Rama has installed a regime. The opposition's problem did not begin four years ago. As the first denouncer of the crisis after the second defeat in the opposition in April 2021, I declared my conviction that that defeat was the last proof necessary to understand that a political project had ended and a new political project was needed. This statement, coupled with the announcement of the candidacy for Chairman of the DP, helped everyone not to think, but to deal with me. Why was it the last proof necessary? Because, that defeat also consumed the second opportunity to prove that the experiment with Basha as the alleged Chairman does not work, that the myth of the alliance with a part of the left does not work. Neither does the myth of two mandates work. So, every tactic failed. But no one wanted to know about the lack of a strategy. Everyone explains the result with technicalities and tactics.

The essence is and remains the opposition's painful misunderstanding of the deformation that it itself carries. No one in the DP ever answered the question, why did we lose in 2013? Why did we lose urban centers in 2011, and 2007? Why did we even emerge as the second strongest force in the most favorable year, 2009, after the most productive mandate of the transition?

Even today, no one will talk about these things. No one will accept that the past does not become the future. And, the DP and its vocal public supporters continue on the same path and, surprisingly, hope for a solution.

But my friend insists, are we in a regime? As if it were a state of war, where the law of war operates and any doubt, question mark, debate, refusal is tantamount to treason. To let go of the debate balloon, I say to my friend, yes, it is a regime, but it is a tango regime. That we are left in the Rama regime, which projects the strength of the regime and extinguishes any alternative. Just as we are left in the Berisha regime, which projects strength on the opposition, not the alternative.

Each has created their own regime. Rama of the majority and power, Berisha of power over the minority.

The freezing of the opposition and, worse, its stagnation, as a result of force, in the model of minority power, makes rotation as change impossible and projects only rotation without change. This prolongs the life of the majority's power, which, by itself, tends to move towards power and not governance. And the game of power, by itself, moves towards imposition as a beginning, domination as a continuation and regime in the end.

The solution to this equation is not achieved by exchanging the same materialized model in the majority and in the minority, but with a completely opposite model.

To escape the possibility of installing a Putin-style regime, we must first free the opposition from a model identical to the model of power, but which is simply smaller and more powerless.

I see the only solution here. Otherwise, I hope that fate does not force us to pray "May God grant us patience," as he did during the years of communism. (A2 Televizion)
