The Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina has reacted to the celebration of Serbian Statehood Day in the Republika Srpska, which for the first time this year was celebrated in Banja Luka as the day of statehood for this ethnicity.
The response states that "The Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina clearly states: Bosnia and Herzegovina is a single and sovereign state consisting of two entities, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republika Srpska, as well as the Brcko District."
The EU delegation says that the sovereignty, territorial integrity, constitutional order, including the decisions of the Constitutional Court, and the international subjectivity of Bosnia and Herzegovina must be respected.
"Regional cooperation and good neighborly relations are an essential part of progress on the European path. Actions and statements that negatively affect good neighborly relations and deepen political divisions should be avoided. We expect all international partners to be equally committed to the European perspective of Bosnia and Herzegovina as a single, indivisible and sovereign country."
The EU Delegation calls on political actors in Bosnia and Herzegovina to refrain from actions that deepen divisions and create tensions, recalling the country's European path, following the European Council's decision in March 2024 to open membership negotiations.
"Instead, we encourage them to focus entirely on progress on the European path, with all the benefits this would offer to citizens," the response concludes. /Kosovapress (A2 Televizion)
