An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 on the Richter scale was recorded at 6.19 am local time this morning, in the maritime area north of Crete.
As reported by local media based on data from the Geodynamic Institute, the epicenter of the earthquake was 56 km north of Neapolis in Lassithi, reports A2 CNN.
According to the first assessment, the earthquake occurred at sea at a depth of 62 kilometers.
There are currently no reports of damage. However, cracks were caused, while evidence from Crete speaks of a duration of shaking, writes A2 CNN.
The island's fire services are on general alert. Fire engines are already on patrol to control the situation.
According to media reports, minor landslides have been recorded as a result of the earthquake on the provincial road network, and on the 25 August road in Heraklion, a small collapse of parts of a building has occurred. Both the Crete region and the municipalities are on high alert. (A2 Televizion)
