North Macedonia's Deputy Prime Minister, Izet Mexhiti, said on Friday that the Government has a stable majority, but added that talks are underway with MPs from the opposition coalition, the European Front, to become part of the Government.
Speaking during the conference "Improving Green Infrastructure in the Western Balkans", Mexhiti said that, despite the departure of Arben Taravari, the Albanian bloc continues to have legitimacy and "the same number of MPs, 13-14".
Taravari – leader of the Alliance for Albanians – resigned from his post as North Macedonia's Minister of Health on Thursday.
The European Front – led by the Albanian party Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) – has 18 deputies in the Macedonian Parliament.
Asked by journalists whether these MPs will act as part of the WLEN parliamentary group, Mexhiti replied that some are part of the majority and the European Front and, according to him, "will be support for the Government."
After Taravar's resignation - to whom the government had sent the message that "he cannot be part of the Government and cooperate with the DUI" - the issue of a cabinet reshuffle was raised, but Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski closed this discussion by announcing only the replacement of ministers.
Mexhiti said this morning that they are "in negotiations on several political options for the post of Minister of Health after Taravar's departure, and based on them a new name for minister will be proposed."
He added that these talks are not only taking place within VLEN or with Prime Minister Mickoski, but also with "individuals, groups and political entities outside VLEN – within the European Front, who are in opposition and will probably go over to the other side."
He did not clarify whether this means that negotiations are also being held with Ziadin Sela, leader of a wing of the Alliance for Albanians, part of the European Front.
The Deputy Prime Minister was also unclear about the fate of Arben Fetai, Deputy Prime Minister for Good Governance and member of Taravar's party, given that he has not yet announced his resignation.
"He is doing a good job, he is successfully contributing to changes and I hope he continues," he added./ REL (A2 Televizion)
