Eight people lost their lives in a fire that engulfed a nursing home on the outskirts of the Serbian capital.
Seven other people were injured in the fire that broke out around 3:30 a.m. in Barajevo, a municipality on the southern edge of Belgrade.
Police did not immediately issue an official statement about the incident that occurred at the nursing home where more than 30 elderly people and the staff who cared for them were staying.
The Serbian government's Minister of Social Welfare, Nemanja Starovic, told the media that it is initially suspected that one of the elderly people set fire to a mattress, which then spread rapidly. (A2 Televizion)
