Earthquakes continue to hit Santorini, one of Greece's most famous and picturesque islands. Images coming from the island show empty streets and people rushing to catch a ferry to leave.
But an Albanian, who has lived there for 30 years, says he has no intention of leaving and leaving everything behind.
"Many businesses have closed, many more will close because everyone has left, especially family members," Niko Topuzi, who works there in the hotel business, tells "Dita jonë" on A2 CNN. "I personally will not leave, I will not move at all. I almost grew up on this island, because I have been here since 1995. I have a lot of contact with people, even very old people. It's not that I don't believe in science and technology, but they said that many have survived even more powerful earthquakes here. I will move personally."
He explains that the tremors are lower than in previous days, however, it is reported that 11-14 thousand residents have left. "Most of the businesses have closed because their workers have left. I have also lost three workers. I am a little more privileged because I also have my family and I will work a little more. But there are still tourists here, mainly from Latin America and Asia."
The authorities have not yet ordered people to leave, most people have left of their own free will. “If they tell us to leave, I will leave too,” Topuzi says. “I personally can’t even imagine leaving, but if they tell us to, I will come to Albania.” (A2 Televizion)
