The mayor of Kocani, Ljubco Papazov, who resigned two days ago, has been arrested by police along with two other former mayors who have led the city in previous years.
According to initial information, the former mayors of Kocani, Ratko Dimitrovski and Nikolcho Iliev, who headed the institution from 2009-2017 and from 2017 to 2021, respectively, have been arrested.
Ljupco Papazov was questioned by the prosecutor at the Kocani Public Prosecution Office on March 17, and after the questioning ended, the prosecution announced that a decision would be made on his further status in the proceedings.
The three former mayors are suspected of being aware that the nightclub in which the fire that killed 59 people broke out was operating illegally for the last ten years of its existence and had covered up this illegality.
