Russian forces launched a massive drone and missile attack on Ukraine, including the Kiev region, overnight, the country's Air Force and the capital's military administration said. Explosions were heard in many regions, including Kiev, Kropyvnytskyi, Kherson and Mykolaiv.
A large concentration of drones has been reported in the regions of Kiev, Chernihiv, Cherkasy and Vinnytsia, eastern Zhytomyr, western Sumy and northern Odessa. One person was injured in Kharkiv (east). The mayor of Lviv (west), Andriy Sadovyi, reported a fire in the city.
Poland and allied countries scrambled their fighter jets overnight following the massive Russian attack on Ukraine, the country's Armed Forces Operational Command announced on X, as reported by RBC-Ukraine.
"Due to the activity of Russian long-range aircraft striking designated targets, in particular, in western Ukraine, Polish and allied air forces have begun operating in Polish airspace," a press release said. Ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems have also been placed on high alert. "The measures taken are aimed at ensuring security in areas bordering the threatened areas," the statement explained. "The Operational Command is monitoring the current situation and forces and equipment remain fully prepared for an immediate response."
