French security agencies seized a record amount of cocaine this weekend after a successful operation in the port of Dunkirk, in the north of the country. According to police sources, it is about 10 tons of cocaine, which was hidden in a container and has a market value of 320 million euros.
The operation was carried out by customs authorities, who have been on constant watch for drug trafficking activities. Although the drugs were seized, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
This successful action by the French police, however, shows the alarming increase in the large quantities of cocaine circulating in France. According to statistics, French authorities seized a total of 53.5 tons of cocaine during 2024, a significant increase of 130% compared to 2023, where 23 tons were confiscated.
Meanwhile, although this operation took place in the port of Dunkirk, the port of Le Havre is the one that has strong maritime links with South American countries, among the world's main cocaine producers, and is considered one of the main cocaine gateways to Europe, according to the French Observatory on Drugs and Addiction Trends.
This major seizure has raised new concerns about the level of drug trafficking in the region, highlighting the need for intensified measures and international cooperation to combat this phenomenon. (A2 Televizion)
