Ukrainian and US delegations will meet today (March 25) in Saudi Arabia following Russia-US talks there the day before on a limited Black Sea ceasefire proposal that Washington hopes will pave the way for broader peace negotiations.
The talks between the US and Russia were portrayed by Washington as a chance to end the war that has lasted for more than three years. A White House source said there had been progress in discussions held in Riyadh and a "positive announcement" could be expected soon.
Negotiations between representatives of Russia and the United States began on Monday morning and lasted more than 12 hours.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin stressed that no final document will be signed, however, a draft joint declaration is expected to be published soon.
The White House also aims to reach a ceasefire agreement between Ukraine and Russia by April 20, which this year coincides with Easter for the Catholic and Orthodox Churches, according to Bloomberg.
Meanwhile, Ukraine and Russia continued their attacks, with Kiev accusing Moscow of missile strikes that injured 88 people, and Moscow of a Ukrainian attack that took the lives of two journalists.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha said Russia must stop attacks on Ukrainian cities and end the war against civilians.
