UN humanitarian operations in Gaza are "on the brink of collapse", exposing besieged civilians to an immediate shortage of drinking water due to a lack of fuel supplies.
This is the alarm of the head of UNRWA Philippe Lazzarini in X.
"Having fuel only for trucks will not save lives, because by the end of the day, about 70% of the population of Gaza will not have access to drinking water," he declared.
The fuel arrived this Wednesday in the Gaza Strip via Egypt, for the first time since October 7, the UN agency confirmed. But it considers this shipment insufficient to expand its humanitarian operations in support of civilians trapped in the fighting between the Israeli army and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas.
The UN continues to demand that the fuel be sent to Gaza, particularly to supply hospitals, but Israel refuses, claiming it could be used by Hamas for its military activities. (A2 Televizion)
