British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak suffered another blow this week after the Supreme Court struck down his scheme to send illegal immigrants to Rwanda.
All the members of the supreme court voted unanimously, describing as illegal this plan of the head of the government, which according to him would stop illegal immigration.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak used that plan to scare illegal immigrants, including those from Albania, from crossing the English Channel from France in dinghies or small boats.
Once deported to Rwanda, migrants could apply for asylum there, return to their home country or seek asylum in another country, but not in Britain.
The Chief Justice said there was a real risk that asylum seekers could be deported from Rwanda to the countries they fled from.
Since its introduction in 2022, the plan has faced legal challenges, with the Supreme Court first rejecting it and then an appeal overturning the decision.
But now it looks like the deportation program will be suspended after Britain's highest judicial body ruled it illegal. Organizations and associations for the protection of immigrants and asylum seekers welcomed the decision.
