A savage act of anti-Semitism. This is how the murder of two employees of the Israeli Embassy in Washington, near a Jewish museum in the American capital, is being described. Local media report that one of the two victims was an Israeli diplomat.
Several other embassy staff members were also injured in the shooting, A2 reports. A 3-year-old from Chicago, identified as Elias Rodriguez, has been arrested in connection with the double murder. Authorities said a young couple were leaving the museum where an event was being held to help the people of Gaza when they were shot at around 9 p.m.
The suspected attacker was heard shouting “Free Palestine.” The incident is being investigated by Washington police and the FBI, who will determine if there is a possible connection to terrorism: “We believe the killing was committed by a single suspect, who is now in custody. Prior to the shooting, the suspect was seen walking in front of and behind the museum. He approached a group of four people, pulled out a handgun and opened fire, shooting the two victims. After the shooting, the suspect entered the museum and was stopped by security forces. He shouted “Free Palestine” while being escorted by police.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the act as the fruit of savage hatred against Israel and announced that he had ordered increased security measures at all diplomatic missions around the world. US President Donald Trump also expressed his outrage at the attack, which he called a clear act of anti-Semitism.
"These horrific murders based on anti-Semitism must end now. Hate and radicalism have no place in the United States," Trump declared in a post on social media. (A2 Televizion)
