An unusual traffic accident has occurred on the A1 motorway near Newcastle, in the United Kingdom, involving at least four police cars and two civilian vehicles, a BMW and a Volvo.
The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. and resulted in five people being rushed to the hospital.
According to the North East Ambulance Service, five ambulance crews, a specialist doctor, a duty officer, two Hazardous Area Response Teams (HART) as well as support from the Great Northern Air Ambulance Service were sent to the scene.
The condition of the injured remains unclear, but some are reported to have suffered serious injuries.
Footage from the scene shows extensive damage to one of the police cars, which has lost its roof and three doors, while others have broken windows and parts scattered across all three lanes of the road.
One of the civilian vehicles has been completely overturned, while the A1 motorway is closed in both directions between junctions 73 and 75 and is expected to remain so until the afternoon hours due to the complex investigations being carried out by Northumbria Police. (A2 Televizion)
