EU against Trump, Pistorius: Don't make concessions to Putin before

"It would be better not to make public concessions before negotiations." This was what German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said in Brussels, commenting on talks between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin on the Ukraine issue.

According to Pistorius, Russia will remain a threat to European security even if a peace agreement is reached in Ukraine.

"It would be naive to believe that this threat will diminish even after a peace agreement, if one is ever reached," Pistorius said, adding that this is why "we must invest faster and more in our defense and security capabilities."

"Peace can only be secured from a position of strength, as we have unfortunately learned over the centuries," he added.

According to the German minister, Europe should be involved in negotiations to end Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. As for the possible deployment of troops to ensure peace in Ukraine, Pistorius says this debate is too premature for him. "There are several ways to ensure peace," he said.  (A2 Televizion)
