Following the restoration of contacts between Russia and the United States in Saudi Arabia, international media are sounding the alarm that there is great concern in many European countries about the withdrawal of American troops.
"Italy is preparing for a possible withdrawal of American troops from Kosovo. The European allies would then be alone in the Balkans against Putin's friend, Aleksandar Vucic, and the powerful Serbian army," writes the German newspaper 'Bild'.
In the article by 'Bild', "Europe in fear! Secret services fear the withdrawal of American troops", it is written, among other things, that Western security services and politicians fear that the negotiations that began in Riyadh could lead to an end to the presence of American troops in large parts of Europe.
"According to our information, this is about Putin's demands in 2021, namely the withdrawal of US troops from all NATO countries that joined the alliance after 1990," the newspaper emphasizes.
A worst-case scenario, which many experts fear, is "an immediate invasion of the Russian military in the former Soviet republics", namely Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, as well as "a full-scale war with Poland".
The German newspaper's news also mentions the post on the social platform X by former Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gabrielius Landsbergis.
"Lavrov demanded that NATO return to its 1997 borders and withdraw from all countries except East Germany in the interests of stability in Europe. So why shouldn't Putin demand this in Riyadh?" Landsbergis wrote on Monday.
The news also mentions the analysis of the 'Financial Times', which states that, "Putin wants NATO troops to withdraw from the entire former Soviet empire. European officials believe that it seems likely that Trump will agree to withdraw US troops from the Baltics and perhaps further west. This would leave the EU defenseless against a Russian army."
