Macron and Starmer leave for the US, Scholz criticizes Trump: It is dangerous to

Zelensky is the elected head of state of Ukraine, the German Chancellor emphasized. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is the first among European leaders to react after the fierce clashes that took place today between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Scholz said it was "wrong and dangerous" for US President Donald Trump to call the Ukrainian leader a "dictator".

"It is simply wrong and dangerous to deny President Zelensky his democratic legitimacy," Scholz told Spiegel.

"Volodymyr Zelensky is the elected head of state of Ukraine. The fact that elections cannot be held in the midst of war is in line with the requirements of the Ukrainian constitution and electoral laws. No one should claim otherwise," Scholz noted.

The German Chancellor recalled that it was Russia under Vladimir Putin that started the war in Ukraine. "Ukraine has been defending itself against a merciless war of Russian aggression for almost three years. Day by day," he added.

Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will visit Washington next week, where, among other meetings, they aim to end the war in Ukraine.

This was announced by the White House national security adviser, Mike Walz.

When asked about the possibility of reaching a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine, Waltz said in an interview with the conservative network Fox News: " We are talking to all parties and then the next step is to create technical groups to start discussing more details ." (A2 Televizion)
