The European Commission has today updated the EU Aviation Security List, adding another one to the list of airlines subject to operating bans or restrictions within the union.
Ensuring the highest level of aviation safety for Europeans and all other passengers traveling is at the heart of the Commission's aviation safety policy.
After today's update, Air Tanzania has also been included in the list.
The basis of this decision is the safety problems identified by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). This also led to the decision not to grant Air Tanzania a third country operator (TCO) licence.
Commissioner Tzitzikostas also welcomed EASA's positive decision on 29 November 2024 to lift the third country operator suspensions imposed on Pakistan International Airlines.
Since the suspension of the TCO license in 2020, Pakistan Airlines and the Civil Aviation Authority of Pakistan have made significant progress in improving safety performance and oversight capabilities and is able to resume operations in the EU.
Additionally, Airblue Limited, another Pakistani airline, also received EASA's TCO license.
Following today's update, a total of 129 airlines are banned from EU skies:
• 100 airlines certified in 15 countries, due to insufficient safety oversight by the aviation authorities of those countries;
• 22 airlines certified in Russia, as well as 7 individual airlines from other countries, based on identified serious safety deficiencies: Air Tanzania (Tanzania), Air Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe), Avior Airlines (Venezuela), Blue Wing Airlines (Suriname), Iran Aseman Airlines (Iran), Fly Baghdad (Iraq) and Iraqi Airways (Iraq).
Two additional airlines are subject to operational restrictions and can only fly to the EU with specific types of aircraft: Iran Air (Iran) and Air Koryo (North Korea).
Today's update of the EU aviation security list is based on the consensus of Member States' aviation security experts who met in Brussels from 19 to 21 November 2024 under the auspices of the EU Aviation Security Committee- of. This committee is chaired by the European Commission with the support of EASA. (A2 Televizion)
