CIA Document on Soviet Soldiers Hardened by Aliens in the 1980s: Legend or
An artistic reconstruction of the alleged encounter with extraterrestrials in Ukraine, between the late 1980s and early 1990s.

A declassified CIA document, which emerged from the archives years ago after the collapse of the Soviet Union, has made the rounds of the world, bringing back a mysterious story that has raised doubts and speculation, regarding an alleged event that took place in Ukraine in the late 80s and early 1990s. According to the document, 23 Soviet soldiers were frozen after an encounter with a UFO during a military exercise. The episode has been brought back to the forefront by the "Joe Rogan Experience", a very popular American podcast, hosted by comedian and commentator Joe Rogan, which hosts scientists, but also controversial figures and witnesses to alleged unexplained events, raising more questions than answers.

The story is found in the CIA report

According to the document, a 250-page file originally from the KGB, a UFO appeared at low altitude during a training exercise and was then shot down by a surface-to-air missile. The object, with the typical shape of a "flying saucer", is said to have crashed not far from the military base. According to the report, from the wreckage emerged several short humanoid creatures, with... the usual large heads and black eyes. These beings, gathered in a group, would have then taken on a luminous spherical shape, which would then have exploded with a blinding flash. As a result of that intense light, it is said that 23 soldiers were turned into stone, like limestone columns, while only two survived and were saved because they remained partially in the shade, protected from that light.

Scientific analysis and hypothesis

The report shows that Soviet scientists concluded that the explosion had altered the cellular structure of the bodies, turning organic tissue into a substance similar to limestone. The remains, both human and from the alleged aircraft, would undoubtedly have been transferred to a secret military center near Moscow for further analysis.

An American CIA agent said it was "a terrible act of revenge by extraterrestrial beings," adding: "They can defend themselves if attacked. And their technology is beyond our comprehension."

But how credible is this story?

The document, although preserved in the CIA archives, is not an official investigative analysis, but rather a translation of an article published in 1993 in the Ukrainian newspaper Ternopil Vechirniy, which reproduced a story that appeared in the Canadian tabloid Weekly World News, known for its strange and imaginative stories, including seeing a live Elvis Presley (!) and various sea monsters.

Furthermore, reliable sources such as the Kyiv Post and the Jerusalem Post have confirmed that the CIA document is merely an informational content, not a confirmation of the facts transmitted.

Former intelligence officials have stressed that this is a translated and archived press review, without the agency ever verifying the authenticity of its content.

A modern legend fueled by mystery

The story was revived in the early 2000s, but has only recently gained international attention, thanks to the growing media interest in UAPs (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena), also thanks to the opening of the US UAP Task Force in 2020. Then, it was said that the Joe Rogan Experience podcast reached the general public and its popularity spread.

While this is a fascinating piece of contemporary folklore, it's worth noting that there is no concrete or photographic evidence. Neither alien remains nor "solidified" bodies have ever been seen or verified. This makes this story more like the stuff of a science fiction novel or an episode of The X-Files than a chronicle of a real event.
