Vladimir Putin wants to hold direct talks with Ukraine. This is expected to eliminate the presence of Western mediators in this matter. This fact has been confirmed by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

Quoted by the Interfax news agency, Peskov told reporters: " When President Putin said that it was possible to discuss the issue of not hitting civilian targets, including bilaterally, the president had in mind negotiations and discussions with the Ukrainian side ."

There have been no direct talks between the two sides since the first weeks after the Russian invasion in February 2022.

For his part, Zelensky did not directly respond to Putin's proposal, he stressed in his nightly speech that Ukraine "was ready for any talks" about a ceasefire that would stop attacks on civilians.

" Ukraine stands by its proposal not to attack civilian infrastructure. We are waiting for a correct answer from Moscow. We are ready for any conversation on how to achieve this. There is a clear and simple path, to stop long-range missile attacks and drone strikes, which will automatically lead to the protection of civilian infrastructure. A ceasefire, real and long-term, should be the first step towards peace ," Volodymyr Zelensky said.

Ukraine is expected to take part in talks with the United States and European countries on Wednesday in London, Zelensky said. The discussions are a follow-up to a meeting in Paris last week, where the United States and European countries discussed ways to end the more than three-year war.

Meanwhile, fighting has continued in the Odessa region. Russian forces have launched a massive drone attack on the Ukrainian port city of Odessa. The number of people injured is at least three. The attack targeted a residential building in a densely populated neighborhood, the city's mayor said. Fires broke out after the drone strikes, and several apartments were destroyed. (A2 Televizion)
