A foreign expert has said that Russian President Vladimir Putin still believes he can "subdue" Ukraine "to control or destroy it", as he held talks with Donald Trump's envoy, Steve Witkoff.
According to foreign media, James Nixey, director of the 'Russia and Eurasia' program at Chatham House, told Sky News that both Russia and the US want to normalize relations and resume trade and both "see Ukraine and its President as a problem."
"It's a betrayal. But that doesn't matter if your goal is not to gain favorable conditions for Ukrainians," he added.
"However, a significant obstacle to the normalization of relations between Washington and Moscow is Europe," he further said.
"It is difficult to imagine that the Europeans would simply capitulate to Trump's vision and abandon Ukraine as well," he added.
Nixey said that the ongoing fighting on the front lines and today's car bomb attack, which killed a Russian general near Moscow, shows that Ukraine is still a player, still in this war, and that a deal cannot be made over the heads of the Ukrainians. (A2 Televizion)
