Donald Trump is officially the 47th President of the United States of America. He was sworn in in a ceremony held, for the first time in 40 years, inside Congress.
Former President Joe Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris made the smooth transfer of power into the hands of the Republican, who was sworn in on the same Bible used by Abraham Lincoln at his inauguration as President in 1861.
In his first speech as the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump presented his vision for governing for the next 4 years. First, for America.
"America's golden age begins right now. From this day forward, our country will flourish and be respected. I will simply put America first. Our sovereignty will be regained, our security will be restored, the scales of justice will be rebalanced. The vicious and violent transformation of the Justice Department into a political weapon will end. Our top priority will be creating a proud, prosperous, and free nation," Trump said.
He then announced the end of the politicization of race or gender in terms of public and private life: "From today on, it will be the official policy of the American government to have only two genders, male and female."
Then, he almost self-proclaimed himself a "prophet," emphasizing that his life was spared for a divine mission, to make America great again.
"January 20, 2025 is a day of liberation," Trump said, attacking Joe Biden's previous administration as corrupt and extremist.
The president declared a national emergency at the United States border with Mexico: "All illegal immigration will be stopped and we will begin the process of deportation to the countries from which millions of criminals have come."
Trump added that he would order the deployment of military units to protect the United States from, as he called it, “immigrant invasion.” He also announced that he was designating drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.
The new president implemented another national emergency, that of energy, to make America an energy-producing nation, while once again sealing the United States' exit from the Paris Climate Pact.
Trump vowed to restore free speech by banning all censorship through an executive order.
On foreign policy, he confirmed his post-campaign goals of renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and reclaiming the Panama Canal. But he also spoke about the wars: “My proudest legacy will be that of a peacemaker and a unifier. That’s what I want to be, a peacemaker and a unifier. I’m pleased to say that as of Sunday, the day before I take office, the hostages in the Middle East have returned home to their families.”
Finally, there was a plan for off-planet: “The United States will once again consider itself a rising nation, a nation that increases our wealth, expands our territory, builds our cities, raises our expectations, and carries our flag to new and beautiful horizons, and we will pursue our visible destiny to the stars, sending American astronauts to plant our stars and stripes on the planet Mars.”
