Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is the first European Union leader to pose next to Donald Trump as President.

After attending his inauguration ceremony, Meloni posted a photo on social media alongside Trump, once again reaffirming the friendly relationship between them and the new administration in Washington's support for Rome as a strategic partner in Europe.

"I am certain that the friendship between our nations and the values ​​that unite us will continue to strengthen cooperation between Italy and the US, facing global challenges together and building a future of prosperity and security for our peoples," Meloni said in a post on the 'X' platform.

The leader said her country "will always be committed to consolidating dialogue" between Europe and the US.

Meloni was one of several world leaders Trump invited to attend his inauguration in Washington. She was seen sitting next to Argentine President Javier Miel.
