Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that cooperation with the European Union was necessary for the reconstruction of Syria. He made these statements during a meeting in Ankara with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
According to the Turkish leader, "recent developments in Syria have shown how comprehensive and conscientious Turkey's humanitarian foreign policy is and that cooperation with the countries of the European Union is necessary in the fight against terrorism, in the reconstruction of Syria and in the reform of institutions existing", says the statement of the Turkish Presidency.
The two leaders discussed developments in the Ukraine-Russia conflict and the Middle East, particularly in Gaza and Syria, as well as bilateral relations.
The Hungarian Prime Minister's visit to Ankara comes after Orbán had a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Kremlin confirmed on Thursday that Orban offered Putin to take part in a major prisoner exchange and a Christmas truce in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Erdogan himself led Turkey's peace efforts between the two countries and managed to broker an agreement between the two countries to transport Ukrainian grain amid the conflict, although efforts for a lasting peace have so far yielded no tangible results.
Orban, whose country holds the next presidency of the European Union, launched a self-styled peacekeeping mission for the Russia-Ukraine conflict. (A2 Televizion)
