The Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, vowed that the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria will be protected at all costs and that Turkey has no intention of entering there.

"Turkey has not laid eyes on the territory or sovereignty of another country. The territorial integrity of Syria must be protected at all costs. Syria belongs to Syrians with all their ethnic, religious or sectarian identities. The people of Syria will decide the fate of Syria," Erdogan said during a speech in Ankara on Monday evening.

Erdogan added that he will open the border point with Syria, Yayladagi, to facilitate the voluntary return of Syrian refugees to their country, after the overthrow of Bashar Al-Assad.

After 13 years of civil war, the rebels managed to take control of Damascus while the president and his family fled to Moscow.

Immediately after the fall of the regime, Israel took control of the buffer zone between the two states in the Golan Heights, while there are reports that Israeli army tanks have entered Syrian territory. Israel has also carried out several airstrikes in Syria since the start of the rebels' march on Damascus.

Several declared terrorist organizations, such as the Kurdistan Workers' Party and the Islamic State, also operate there. (A2 Televizion)
