In the US, White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt has responded to questions about Ukraine and was asked why President Donald Trump has been silent about the recent Ukrainian drone attack on Russian air bases.
According to foreign media, she said that "Trump's opinion on the war in the current situation is that he remains positive about the progress we have seen."
Leavitt said Trump "urged the two leaders to sit down and talk to each other" and since then, according to her, Russia has handed over a peace memorandum to the Ukrainian side and the two sides have agreed to a prisoner exchange.
"But he [Trump] is also realistic and understands that these are two countries that are at war and have been at war for some time because of the incompetence and weakness of his predecessor," she adds, writes A2 CNN.
"Trump is working hard to resolve this conflict," she continued, writes A2 CNN.
Asked if Trump approved Ukraine's decision to strike nuclear bombers in Russia, she adds: "I wish the President would speak about it himself."
Leavitt is also asked if Trump was briefed on the drone strikes on Russia over the weekend, to which she replies: "He wasn't."
Over the weekend, Ukraine launched an unprecedented attack on Russian long-range bombers.
Kiev officials said Sunday's attack damaged or destroyed more than 40 fighter jets at air bases deep inside Russia, including remote regions of the Arctic, Siberia and the Far East, more than 4,300 miles from Ukraine. (A2 Televizion)
