Italian highways have turned into crime scenes similar to those of the movies "Far West" this Monday, as in two different incidents in Milan and Sardinia, armored vehicles transporting money were ambushed and attacked with firearms.
The first attack on armored cars happened shortly after 06:00 on the A4 Milan-Torino highway, where it was attempted to block near the bridge over the Ticino, in the Novara area.
The robbers fired with firearms but no one was injured
A gang of armed thieves tried to block the armored car by placing a truck on the side of the road and then fired shots.
However, the driver of the armored car managed to divert it and continue the journey, saving himself. The bandits, to escape the police during the escape, threw nails in the street.
Some truck drivers were among the witnesses. "We have been trapped since morning. At first it was not clear what happened, they then told us that they fired a gun. The truck stuck in the middle of the road was empty when we arrived, but there were no keys. The criminals took them," said one of them.
The truck involved in the attempt to block the armored car is still impounded at the scene and investigators are working to figure out how many people were on hand for the highway attack. Meanwhile, the A4 has been reopened after the partial traffic jam, but queues of kilometers remain in both directions.
Meanwhile, the second incident was even more serious and took place on the 125 highway, in Ogliastra of southeastern Sardinia, shortly before 08:00.
The robbers used machine guns and pistols when they shot at the armored cars.
According to the Italian media, a commando group has blocked the road at kilometer 91, near the junction for Tertenia, causing panic among drivers, traffic and the intervention of ambulances and a helicopter, who have spread unconfirmed reports of injuries.
The bandits, at least 6 in this case, forced a truck carrying cars to stop and put the vehicle on its side. They shot out the tires and pointed guns at the driver, forced him out and threw his keys on the side of the road, further imprisoning him with a large barbed chain.
Shortly after, the armored vehicle that was headed for Cagliari had to stop and the guards were protected by sheltering in the cabin.
However, they opened the doors after the robbers doused the armored vehicle in gasoline and set it on fire. A van and a car were also burned, while clouds of black smoke rose over the highway.
It is still unclear whether the group of robbers took away the bags of money that the armored car was carrying.
Initial information excludes injuries to drivers and drivers, as the robbers only fired into the air. Thus, the highway remained closed to traffic until the late hours of the morning. (A2 Televizion)
