US President Donald Trump said he had a "long and very productive" phone call with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
According to foreign media, in a post on his "Truth Social" platform, the American president says they discussed Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as AI.
The two agreed, Trump says, that "we want to stop the millions of deaths that are happening in the Russia-Ukraine War."
He explains that the pair agreed to work closely together, including mutual visits to their respective countries.
"We have also agreed that our respective teams will begin negotiations immediately and we will begin by calling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to brief him on the conversation, which I will do now," Trump said.
Trump adds that he has instructed a team, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, to lead the negotiations.
