Jerusalem Day Celebrations, Israeli Ultranationalists Chant 'Death to

Groups of Israeli ultranationalists were heard chanting "death to the Arabs" and "let your village burn" in the streets of Jerusalem's Old City today.

According to foreign media, these statements come as Israelis mark Jerusalem Day, which they call the anniversary of the "reunification" of East and West Jerusalem after the 1967 Six-Day War.

After the conflict, Israel effectively annexed East Jerusalem, in defiance of international efforts to divide the city equally between itself and the Palestinians.

Jerusalem is at the heart of the Arab-Israeli conflict, with both sides claiming the land and its religious sites, writes A2 CNN.

Earlier today, tour buses carrying groups of young ultranationalists lined up at the entrances to the Old City, bringing people from all over the country.

Israeli police said they had arrested several individuals, "acting quickly to prevent violence, confrontations and provocations."

Last year's Jerusalem Day march resulted in the attack on a Palestinian journalist by Israeli ultranationalist groups.

Four years ago, this sparked an 11-day war between Israel and Gaza, writes A2 CNN.
