Earlier, US President Donald Trump repeated claims by Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin that Ukrainian troops in the Russian region of Kursk are now surrounded by Russian forces.
According to foreign media, the Ukrainian military has rejected these claims, describing them as "false."
A statement says that the troops were, in fact, withdrawn to "more favorable" positions and that there is no risk of them being surrounded.
The Ukrainian General Staff said: "Reports about the alleged encirclement by the enemy of Ukrainian units in the Kursk region are untrue and are being created by the Russians for political purposes and to exert pressure on Ukraine and its partners."
"The situation has not changed much during the day," he said further, writes A2 CNN.
"Combat operations continue in the operational zone of the Kursk military group," he added.
The statement added that Ukrainian forces have "regrouped." It further said: "Our soldiers are repelling the enemy offensive and inflicting effective fire damage from all types of weapons."
"Since the beginning of the day, 13 combat scenes have taken place in the Kursk sector. There is no threat of encirclement of our units," the statement further said. (A2 Televizion)
