A missing American has reportedly been found in Syria, our partner network NBC reports.
According to foreign media, the man, who identified himself as an American named Travis from Missouri, told NBC that he was a "pilgrim" who was arrested earlier this year after crossing the country on foot.
He said he had been imprisoned but was treated well. He declined to give his last name and said he was not a journalist.
The American appeared in videos circulating online in which rebels said they had found him and were keeping him safe.
The man was found in the town of Dhiyabia, just outside the Syrian capital Damascus, by NBC News foreign correspondent Matt Bradley and was found surrounded by reporters as he sat on a bed in a room.
He explained that he had "read a lot of scriptures" before he decided to cross the mountains from Lebanon to Syria, A2 CNN writes.
The man explained that he had been in Europe before going on his pilgrimage and traveling from Lebanon to Syria at the end of May, but was spotted by a border guard and stopped. (A2 Televizion)
