The German government has said it is ready to send troops to support a possible "peacekeeping" mission in Ukraine.
According to foreign media, a spokesman for the country's Defense Ministry said they "wouldn't be embarrassed" if they agreed to something like that. However, they said it was too early to go into details about the proposals, writes A2 CNN.
This statement comes after British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said earlier that he was prepared to deploy UK troops on the ground, if necessary, in Ukraine if a peace deal with Russia is reached.
In contrast, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said this morning that his country had "no plans" to contribute soldiers to peacekeeping in Ukraine.
The comments came ahead of a summit of European leaders in Paris today. A German government spokesman said they did not expect any concrete results from the talks, A2 CNN reports.
However, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz told reporters: "We must ensure that Europe overcomes the challenges of the future in a strong and sovereign way and with its back straight."
"I am confident that we will be able to develop a clear position." (A2 Televizion)
