An elderly couple are refusing to be evacuated from their home in Godstone after two huge sinkholes opened up in the road in this beautiful Surrey village in England. Brendon and Catherine Davis, who live in a 150-year-old house, have said their home is "built to last" and they are not afraid it will be destroyed by the sinkholes that could swallow up nearby homes.
Brendon, 87, told MailOnline: "We're not going anywhere. The house was built by my grandfather and we know it will survive." Catherine, 90, added: "We're not scared. We know the house well."
A restriction has been imposed on the main road in Godstone, and part of it has been closed after a 20-meter crater opened, writes A2 CNN.
Some residents believe this situation was an "accident waiting to happen," blaming heavy truck traffic that has weakened the road. However, it is still unclear what exactly caused these potholes to open. (A2 Televizion)
