Hamas accepts Red Cross access to hostages if Israel allows humanitarian aid

Hamas' armed wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, announced that it is " ready to respond positively to any request from the Red Cross to provide food and medicine for the hostages " it holds, whom the organization calls "enemy prisoners."

However, as she points out, the relevant permission depends on Israel's stance on humanitarian access to Gaza.

The announcement follows a request from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the International Committee of the Red Cross to ensure that the hostages "immediately receive the medical care and attention they need."

In response, Al-Qassam Brigades spokesman Abu Obeida said that the Red Cross's access was conditional on " the opening of humanitarian corridors on a regular and permanent basis, in order to transport food and medicine to the entire population of the Gaza Strip, as well as the complete cessation of all hostile air activities during the hours of delivery of packages to the detainees ."

Abu Obeida also claimed that the hostages were not being deliberately starved and " they are eating the same food that our fighters and the general population are eating ."

He said that " they will not receive any special treatment at a time when the entire people of Gaza are experiencing hunger and isolation ." (A2 Televizion)
