A large explosion has destroyed a house in the suburban area of Arlington, located on the western side of Washington DC.
The powerful explosion happened when the police were executing a search warrant and surrounded a gunman.
Police responded to calls of shots fired at a residence in the 800 block of North Burlington Street around 4:45 p.m. Monday afternoon. Before the explosion, police said someone inside the house had fired at least 40 shots, terrorizing the neighborhood.
" While the officers were trying to execute the search warrant, the suspect fired several times from inside the house. Then, around 8:25 p.m., an explosion occurred in the apartment. The investigation into the circumstances of the explosion is ongoing, " said Ashley Savage, public information officer for the Arlington County Police Department.
The police officers suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
