An ultimatum cannot seal peace in Ukraine. Faced with the threat of the American president with tariffs and sanctions, Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin responds by agreeing to talk to Donald Trump to end the war, writes A2 CNN. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov says that Putin is waiting for signals from Washington and sets some conditions. Initially, it is required that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky leave power and that his country is never accepted into NATO.

Peskov is responding to another statement by Trump, who stressed at the Davos forum that the end of the war depends on the price of oil. "This conflict is due to the threat to Russian national security, the threat to Russians living in the recognized territories and the complete refusal of the Americans and Europeans to listen to Russia. This has nothing to do with oil prices. Zelensky cannot be ready to make a deal, perhaps the word 'solution' is more appropriate here, because in order to reach a solution, negotiations must take place. Zelensky himself has banned negotiations by his decree."

Meanwhile, Russia says it is ready to talk to the United States about nuclear disarmament as soon as possible. "I want to remind you of President Putin's words that in the current circumstances, all nuclear capabilities must be taken into account. There is no way we can negotiate without taking into account the nuclear potential of France and Great Britain. Today's realities require this. So, we have things to talk about. Negotiations are necessary. A lot of time has been lost. The ball is in the court of the Americans who have suspended all essential contacts with us," he said.

US President Donald Trump, in his speech in Davos, via video conference, also asked for China's help in pressuring Russia to stop the war against Ukraine, while welcoming Putin's call to reduce the world's nuclear weapons arsenal. (A2 Televizion)
