The US envoy to Lebanon, Amos Hochstein, announced the beginning of the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Naqoura, in southern Lebanon, more than a month after the ceasefire between the two sides, the Israeli army and Hezbollah, came into force.
"The Israeli army began its withdrawal from Naqoura and today returned south of the Blue Line (the border between the two countries defined by the UN). These withdrawals will continue until all Israeli forces leave Lebanon completely, while the Lebanese army continues to be deployed along the Blue Line," Hochstein said.
Hochstein then urged Lebanese politicians to unite, following the cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah, in view of new elections. The president, after two years of deadlock.
"These are critical times for Lebanon...not only to implement this agreement, but to reach a political consensus, to focus on Lebanon and the Lebanese people," he said.
