A former adviser to President Vladimir Putin said it would be "very dangerous" if Donald Trump supported Ukrainian attacks against Moscow or St. Petersburg.
According to foreign media, speaking to Sky News' main presenter, Mark Austin, after the US president said he would sell weapons to NATO to give to Ukraine, Sergei Markov said that Trump was giving the weapons on the condition that they would not be used in attacks on Moscow.
He said it was "clear that Donald Trump was preventing the possibility of a nuclear war between the two superpowers."
Previously, the Financial Times reported that Trump had asked his Ukrainian counterpart whether Kiev could attack Moscow if the US provided long-range weapons, writes A2 CNN.
Asked if he thought there would be a ceasefire soon, Markov said that only if the Russian military succeeds will a ceasefire occur.
He said Russia supports a ceasefire, but only if it includes promises from the British and French governments not to send troops into Ukrainian territory. (A2 Televizion)
