The Israeli military has confirmed that it launched attacks on targets in Syria overnight, writes A2 CNN.
According to foreign media, the missiles hit Syrian government weapons systems, after two shells were fired from Syria into the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, the IDF said.
Israeli media reported that the shells were the first fired from Syria since an alliance of rebel groups overthrew the regime of Bashar al-Assad last December.
Syria's Foreign Ministry said the Israeli attack caused "significant human and material losses" in Deraa province, accusing Israel of worsening tensions in the region.
In a statement, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said: "Syria has not been and will never be a threat to anyone in the region."
