Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal resigned from his post today.
According to foreign media, his resignation comes a day after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed Shmyhal as Ukraine's new Defense Minister and said that the government reshuffle would be done with the support of Parliament.
He also proposed Yulia Svyrydenko, currently First Deputy Prime Minister, to head the new government as prime minister, A2 CNN reports.
Shmyhal has held the post since March 2020, making him the longest-serving head of government since the country gained independence in 1991, following the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Who is Svyrydenko?
Svyrydenko, 39, is an economist by profession and has served as First Deputy Prime Minister since 2021.
She played a key role in recent negotiations for a mineral agreement with the US, writes A2 CNN. (A2 Televizion)
