A French army official confirmed to the AFP news agency that several dozen Ukrainian soldiers serving in the 155th Mechanized Brigade "Kiev Side" have defected during military training in France.
"There have been a certain number of desertions, but they remain very marginal given the volume of people who have undergone training," the anonymous official told the French news agency, explaining that "they were in the French barracks, they had the right to to come out".
Meanwhile, Ukraine and Russia have reached a "preliminary agreement" to carry out regular prisoner exchanges, starting with the sick and seriously injured.
This was announced by the Ukrainian State Attorney Dmytro Lubinets in an interview with the state parliamentary broadcaster Rada.
"I don't want this to be immediately perceived as an official announcement, but we will see if the Russian side will keep its word. If it does, Ukrainian society will notice the systematic nature in terms of quantity, timing and categories of prisoners returned home", said Lubinets.
Priority will now be given to those who are seriously injured or seriously ill, followed by prisoners who have been in captivity longer. "For the first time we were able to prove that the lists will be created based mainly on physical health", concluded Lubinets. (A2 Televizion)
