Head of UN Nuclear Regulatory Agency calls on Iran: Resume cooperation!

The head of the UN's International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) says he welcomes today's announcements regarding the situation in Iran.

"Resuming cooperation with the IAEA is key to a successful diplomatic agreement to finally resolve the dispute over Iran's nuclear activities," says Rafael Grossi, writes A2 CNN.

He adds that he has written to the Iranian Foreign Minister to emphasize the importance of cooperation and to propose that they meet soon.

IAEA inspectors have remained in Iran throughout the conflict and are ready to begin work as soon as possible, the organization said in a statement, A2 CNN writes.

"During these attacks, we saw extensive damage to several nuclear power plants in Iran, including uranium conversion and enrichment plants," he added.

"Our assessment is that there have been some localized radioactive, as well as chemical, releases within the affected facilities containing nuclear materials - mainly uranium enriched to varying degrees - but there have been no reports of increased radiation levels outside the site," Grossi says.
