Fox News has reported that a US House of Representatives lawmaker is nominating President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
This move comes after he brokered a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran, who had been engaged in a conflict in recent days.
The news was published by US President Donald Trump himself on Truth Social, reports A2 CNN.
Republican Representative Buddy Carter wrote to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, stating that Trump had an “extraordinary and historic role” in ending “the armed conflict between Israel and Iran and in preventing the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism from securing its most lethal weapon.”
The United States itself was involved in the conflict between Israel and Iran, which bombed Iran's nuclear bases.
Carter continues in his letter by writing that Trump's influence in reaching the ceasefire agreement between the two countries was essential.
"President Trump's influence was essential in reaching a rapid agreement that many considered impossible. President Trump also took bold and decisive action to stop Iran's nuclear ambitions and ensure that the world's largest state sponsor of terrorism remains unable to obtain a nuclear weapon," Carter wrote in his letter, A2 CNN reports.
He also added that Trump's leadership during the crisis "exemplifies precisely the ideals that the Nobel Peace Prize seeks to recognize: the pursuit of peace, the prevention of war, and the advancement of international harmony. In a region plagued by historical hostility and political instability, such progress requires both courage and clarity." (A2 Televizion)
