US President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump both tried to take credit for the ceasefire reached in Gaza, negotiations for which had been underway for months, but which were pushed towards a solution even by Trump's representatives.
The latter was quick to emphasize his role in reaching the deal through a post on social media.
"This epic deal could only happen as a result of our historic victory in November, as it showed the entire world that my administration can lead toward peace and negotiate agreements to ensure the security of all Americans," Trump said.
Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden claimed that the final deal was a reflection of the framework of proposals he had presented to the parties since May.
The 81-year-old laughed when a reporter asked who would get credit for the ceasefire in the history books. "Is this a joke?" Biden said.
He emphasized that the plan was conceived and negotiated by his team and would be implemented by the next administration. (A2 Televizion)
